Add Swancreek Township Trustees to the growing list of area officials opposing the construction of a railroad staging yard in Swanton. At their Oct. 17 meeting, trustees passed a resolution opposing the project.
“Due to the potential for significant safety issues, as well as environmental concerns, and the potential for the devaluing of property near the facility, the Swancreek Township Board of Trustees oppose the construction of the Norfolk Southern staging yard located in Swanton Township between Hallett Avenue and Wilkins Road,” the resolution read.
“Since part of the Village of Swanton is in Swancreek Township, the Trustees felt that it was our obligation to take a stance on this issue,” said Rick Kazmierczak, trustee.
The Swancreek Township Trustees join elected officials from Swanton Township, the Village of Swanton, and the Swanton Local School District in speaking out against the staging yard.
