On Sept. 18, Gabriel Richard Witt, was publicly awarded the honor of Eagle Scout before his family, friends and troop at Christ United Methodist Church in Wauseon.

The rank of Eagle is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve. A large community service project, in which a scout proves leadership, is one requirement for the rank. Gabe’s project beneficiary is The Open Door Shelter of Delta.

His project proposal was to make personal care kits for shelter residents. Gabe raised over $1,800 and led his fellow scouts to assemble 131 kits that were donated to the shelter.

He has been an active member of Troop 8 since 2010, during which he served as historian and two terms as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. During his time with Troop 8, he logged dozens of community service hours.

A senior at Wauseon High School, Gabe is involved with the speech & debate team, theater, chorale, and Accapella Choir. After graduation, Gabe plans to pursue a music education degree with a major in vocal studies.

Gabe is thankful for all the local businesses, friends, and family who donated funds towards his Eagle project, as well as scout leaders and fellow scouts who supported him while on his path to Eagle.
