Ohio Turnpike reopens west of Wauseon

Liquid hydrogen fire had kept it closed

Staff Report

The Ohio Turnpike has reopened west of Wauseon following a crash and subsequent fire that left the highway closed for more than 24 hours.

Prior to reopening, eastbound traffic was being diverted at two exits: Exit 13 (Bryan/Montpelier-SR 15) and Exit 25 (Archbold/Fayette-SR 66), depending on traffic volumes between the Indiana border and the accident site.

Westbound, traffic was being diverted at Exit 52 (Toledo Airport/Swanton-SR 2), Exit 39 (Delta/Lyons-SR 109) and Exit 34 (Wauseon -SR 108).

After the fire caused by liquid hydrogen was extinguished, the remaining liquid had to be purged from the truck before it could be removed. After the tanker was removed, repairs to the roadway were required.
