Fire chief warns of fundraising calls

On Tuesday, Fire Chief Rick Sluder issued notice that the fire department received information that parties claiming to be the department’s representatives are calling citizens about raising money for child burn centers and child cancer research.

“This telephone fund raising effort has nothing to do with the Wauseon or any other local fire department, and should probably be considered as not legitimate,” Sluder said. “If and when the Wauseon Fire Department conducts any type of fund raising activities we never call people at their homes or businesses.”

He said the fire department conducts fundraising activities in a face-to-face manner only, and those fundraisers carry identification. The department also places fundraising notices on its website, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Sluder said questions can be directed to 419-335-7831.
