AHS going “Under the Sea”

The Archbold cast of “The Little Mermaid” stops for a quick photo.

Archbold High School students will take the audience under the sea this weekend as the school presents “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.”

Allie McQuade plays the lead role of Ariel with Adam Grisier playing Prince Eric. Other cast members include Sid Ramirez as Sebastian, Levie Rufenacht as Grimsby, Marin Parsley as Flounder, Alex Short as Scuttle, Will Collings as King Triton, Joe Richer as Flotsam, Cam Short as Jetsam, and Malinda Lugbill as Ursula.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is a love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World.”

Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid offers fantastic costumes and sets, great entertainment, and the chance to hear some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years.

“Rehearsals have been progressing quite well,” said Kent Vandock, musical director. “Since our new lighting system upgrade occurred last week we have been making steady progress in getting all aspects of the show to run together.”

“The shows this weekend promise to be outstanding—certainly an experience that the whole family will enjoy!”

Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Archbold High School auditorium on Lafayette Street.

Tickets will be sold at the ticket booth Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and two hours prior to each show. Presale tickets are also available on showtix4U.com
