VFW Post 7424 in Wauseon and its auxiliary have announced the winners of two annual competitions they sponsor.
The first place local winner of “Voice of Democracy,” with a theme of “My Vision for America,” was Kacey Elder. She advanced to a first place win in the district contest, then won second place at the state level.
Local winners included Mia Wenger at second place and Payton Black at third place.
First place for “Patriot’s Pen,” a competition held for grades six through eight, was awarded to Natasha Miller. Second place was given to Logan Richer, and third place to Haleigh Wurst. All three contestants advanced to the district competition and received cash awards.
Both competitions are sponsored throughout the United States, and have local, state, and district winners. One winner from each state advances to the national competition.
Wauseon school district teachers who worked with the students include Stacy Beaverson for the six-through-eight level and Jamie Heath for the high school level.
