Why did you decide to run for office?

Having been a lifelong resident of Fulton County, and having been a public servant for the past 26 years, I believe my supervision and oversight abilities will enhance the Clerk of Court’s office to better serve the citizens of Fulton County.

Why should people vote for you?

I started with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office 26 years ago, beginning as a corrections officer (in the old Fulton County jail), and then was promoted to road patrol in 1990, sergeant in 2003, and then to chief deputy in 2013. Because I came up through the ranks, I have demonstrated my ability to learn new tasks, adapt to differing positions, and show meaningful supervision, and now administration. Furthermore, these series of promotions speak to my honesty and integrity in getting the job done correctly. Because of my law enforcement background, I have a good working knowledge of the law and how it pertains to the clerk’s office. In all, this valuable knowledge will help me establish professionalism and accuracy in the Clerk of Court’s office.

What are your two main goals if elected?

1. Being hands-on with every aspect of the job. By working with staff and learning the requirements of clerk, I look forward to being a part of a team-based organization.

2. Professionalism: I take pride in my work, as I am a detailed, hands-on person and take very seriously my responsibility to be professional, respectful, and efficient in my sworn duties as deputy. That professional, respectful attitude will be taken with me to the clerk’s office.

3. Efficiency: Having knowledge of each task performed by the clerk’s office, I will be able to work with the staff to complete work in a timely, accurate manner.

Have you held office before?

No.

Do you have anything else to add?

Endorsed by the Republican Central Committee of Fulton, endorsed by former Clerk of Court, Mary Gype.

Paul MacDonald

Age: 63

Education: Leipsic High School; International Jr. College, Fort Wayne, Ind., Associate Degree in Accounting.

Organizations: Ohio Clerk of Courts Association (OCCA), six-plus years experience, OCCA Bureau of Motor Vehicles Committee, OCCA Education Committee, OCCA Sound and Visual Aid Committee, Christ United Methodist Church, Fulton County Township Association, Fulton County Record Commission.

Why did you decide to run for office?

I like my job and want to continue to use my qualifications and experience as the Clerk of Courts to serve the people of Fulton County, maintaining the efficiency and proper handling of court documents through technology that is cost- effective for the increasing number of records filed.

Why should people vote for you?

I have six-plus years experience as the Fulton County Clerk of Courts. I’ve made many changes to modernize the office operations, such as debit/credit card usage, scanning of documents, and jury selection software.

What are your two main goals if elected?

First, continue to look at technology to help us do our job of filing civil cases, domestic cases, criminal cases, liens, certificate of judgments, foreign judgments, and miscellaneous case types. Second, to have the office go paperless. This would mean that all pleadings would be filed electronically.

Have you held office before?

I have held the Fulton County Clerk of Courts position since 2010, when I was appointed by the Republican Central Committee. I have been elected to the position two other times by the citizens of Fulton County.

Do you have anything else to add?

I look forward to maintaining my position as Clerk of Courts for Fulton County and continuing my service as an elected official.
