A fire of undermined origin destroyed a home in Clinton Township Monday night.
Wauseon firefighters were called to 3118 State Highway 108 at 8:24 p.m. after a passerby reported the two-story wood frame house engulfed in flames. First Assistant Fire Chief Phil Kessler said the crew could only attack the fire defensively.
“It wasn’t safe to put anybody in,” he said.
The occupants escaped the house safely, and no firefighters were injured while battling the blaze. Fire crews from Delta, Archbold, and Morenci, Mich., and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, assisted at the scene.
Firefighters returned to quarters about 2 a.m. Although no damage estimate was available, the structure was determined a total loss.
The house was owned by Thomas E. Fenton, according to the Fulton County Auditor’s Office.
The City of Wauseon Public Works Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation provided road salt at the scene.
The fire remains under investigation.
