Pettisville Meats announces recall


Pettisville Meats Inc. announces a voluntary recall of approximately 769 pounds of smoked ham shanks due to misbranding. The smoked ham shanks contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), which was not declared on the product label. Some individuals may be intolerant to this ingredient.

The smoked ham shanks were produced between Dec. 3, 2013, and Jan. 14, 2016. The label bears the establishment number EST. 1240 inside the Ohio mark of inspection. This product was sold through the company’s retail market in Pettisville and cooked and served at Rockets’ Grub and Pub, 128 North Michigan Ave. in Edgerton.

The problem was discovered during a routine label verification conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Division of Meat Inspection.

ODA and the company have received no reports of adverse reaction due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Pettisville Meats urges its customers who have purchased this product not to eat it and to return it to the company. Customers may bring this designated product to Pettisville Meats Inc. at 382 Main St. in Pettisville or call the facility at 419-445-0921.
