In an effort to make Fulton Street even more festive during the holiday season, the Wauseon Downtown Association is starting a new tradition. This is the first year of the Wauseon Window Wonderland decorating contest.

Downtown Wauseon businesses were invited to decorate their storefront in competition for a traveling trophy.

“We want to create excitement and to get people who may not normally come downtown to come, look and vote, hopefully to see what variety the downtown businesses have to offer,” said Brigelle Thomas, secretary for the Wauseon Downtown Association. “And it’s fun!”

The theme for this year is A Christmas Story. The 1983 movie has become a holiday classic and downtown windows include anything from the Red Ryder BB gun to the triple dog dare of sticking a tongue to a frigid pole.

“The response has been great, both from the businesses decorating their windows and from those voting,” said Thomas.

The deadline for voting is Saturday. Voting can be done at the Wauseon Public Library and the Downtown Association’s website recently added an online option. Visit www.wauseondowntownassociation.org to vote online.
