COLUMBUS – Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer recently announced the opening of a new workplace health and safety training center located at Northwest State Community College in Archbold. A ribbon cutting was held recently at the new site, which will add to the eleven established training centers locations that offer continuing-education courses on occupational safety and health to prevent accidents and injuries in Ohio workplaces.
“BWC offers top-notch courses on occupational safety and health topics to thousands of workers and employers each year, and we’re pleased to partner with Northwest State Community College to expand our educational and safety reach in northwest Ohio,” said Buehrer. “These training and education opportunities, along with a variety of programs and services available through our Division of Safety and Hygiene, provide employers with numerous resources to help them keep workers safe and healthy.”
BWC’s Division of Safety and Hygiene (DSH) offers a variety of programs, services and resources to help Ohio employers create safe and healthy workplaces. Services include education and training, field consultation services, safety grants, safety councils, the annual Safety Congress and Expo and a specialized library.
The DSH Education and Training Services Center offers courses covering industrial and construction safety, industrial hygiene, safety culture, ergonomics and risk and safety management to prevent accidents and injuries. Courses are free to all employers with a workers’ compensation policy and are designed to emphasize practical application of safety principles, development of a safety culture, current and proposed standards for regulatory compliance, risk and BWC programs.
“Northwest State Community College and the Black Swamp Safety Council are excited to provide training opportunities that benefit the businesses in our region,” said Mari Yoder, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Area employers have been challenged in finding the time to send representatives to training due to distance. Through the new training center, BWC has opened up these opportunities to enhance safety for businesses both large and small throughout northwest Ohio.”
