The Archbold Library Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Sonya L. Huser, MLS as the new director of The Archbold Community Library. She planned to start work at the library on Monday, so as to overlap with retiring Director Joyce Klingelsmith.

Klingelsmith has served as the Archobld Community Library director for over 27 years.

“Sonya has the right combination of experience, skills and education that fit very well with the Archbold Community Library’s leadership needs,” said Jay Budde, Archbold Community Library trustee. “As an added bonus, her winsome personality convinced us all that she is the right person we were seeking to lead our library in the 21st century.”

Huser earned her Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington and has worked as a school media specialist for Muncie Community Schools since 2011. She is currently serving as the Youth Services Specialist (II) at the Maring-Hunt branch of the Muncie, Ind., public library.

“My time at IU Bloomington provided me with some great opportunities to work in a variety of settings. More importantly to the Archbold community, perhaps, I have public library experience. In 2016, Muncie Community Schools and the Muncie Public Library began an unprecedented partnership, which I helped develop,” said Huser. “My school collections were absorbed into the public library system. I received extensive training on public library procedures, policies, and protocols.”

Huser grew up in Goshen, Ind.

“I’m looking forward to working in a small town like Archbold that’s relatively close to my family and also within a short drive of a large community, Toledo,” said Huser.

“The library is more than just books. I can’t wait to show you all what we are capable of together.”
