A fire Wednesday afternoon in Delta caused significant damage to a home.
The Delta Community Fire Department was dispatched to 5525 State Highway 109 at 2:21 p.m., where crews discovered smoke but no visible fire at the residence. They entered the home and found heavy smoke and some fire contained in the attic and second floor walls.
No occupants were home, and no injuries were reported.
Fire Chief Scott Smith said the first floor suffered smoke and water damage but no fire damage. He said, however, that due to the extent of damage the house will probably be declared a loss. No damage estimate has been made.
Smith said the cause of the fire will be listed as undetermined. He said he suspects mechanical or electrical failure.
He said firefighters managed to rescue some valuables inside the home.
The Fulton County Auditor’s Office lists Sheriff Roy Miller as the owner.
The fire department was assisted at the scene by a neighbor and an off-duty Henry County firefighter.
